For the fifth consecutive year, the Chania International Photo Festival, co-organized by Blank Wall Gallery, the Municipality of Chania, and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania, will take place from July 6 to July 12. The fact that the Festival has managed to demonstrate its dynamic presence on a global level is due in part to the tremendous response from photographers worldwide. Participation this year exceeded all previous records, with the work of 480 artists being presented.
An international jury of 17 judges from Europe, America, Australia, and New Zealand undertook the selection of the best photographs submitted, which will be exhibited at the Festival. Additionally, this year, apart from Lens Culture and GuruShots—longtime supporters and promoters of the Festival—the internationally acclaimed Leica magazine, LFI, will feature a special tribute to the Festival in both its print and digital editions.
Artists who submitted their work to the Festival come from 72 countries, including Eritrea, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and many others. The Festival will open on July 6, 2022 at the Grand Arsenal in the Old Harbor of Chania, and on July 7 there will be a presentation of the work of Gerda Taro at the Hammam on Katre Street.
As part of the Festival, various talks and activities will take place, including the now-established 5th Photo Marathon in the city of Chania, an event aimed at showcasing the city through the eyes of participating photographers. A jury will evaluate the photographs and the best works will be awarded.
